Installing Frontpage is a pain!

Well, Check Server Extensions opens a new window called Check Web and then
immediately opens a box asking me if I want to Frontpage to tighten security
as much as possible for all Frontpage Webs.

Recalculate Web simply brings up a box that tells me that the recalculation
was complete successfully.

And the Remove Server Extensions gives me a block that warns me that
removing the Frontpage Server Extensions does not delete content files but
will make this web an all child webs invisible to Microsoft Front Page User
and ask me if I want to continue.

Yeah, I'm doing both at once. I've tried several times now and nothing changes.

I tell you one thing I've discovered is that if I look at Properties for the
install that I'm trying to use (located in the Program Files/Microsoft
Frontpage/Version 3.0/bin "file name: fpsrvwin") it says that it's Frontpage
2000 but System Information, located in my All Programs/Accessories/System
Tools/System Info/Office 2003 Applications says I'm that there is Frontpage
2003 installed. Obviously, it's not installed but that's what it says. So, I
gather from that, that I'm trying to install Frontpage 2000 with Frontpage
2003 extensions and that's why I keep getting the message that there is a
newer version on the computer and that I need to go to Server Extensions
Administrator to configure them, which I've done but it didn't make Frontpage
appear.

Also, I found, in my quest, a program called Microsoft Office Publisher
2003. Could that be some kind of replacement for Frontpage or are they two
separate things?

Listen, thanks for y'alls help. I'd really like to get this program
installed and I figure there's an easy solution to the problem I'm having but
I've been run around in circles so many times by this program that I'm brain
dead, out of ideas. I appreciate y'all carrying on this thread so long to
help me figure it out.

Say, if that link to Open With Front Page Link doesn't work and never has,
how do you open Frontpage? I don't see it listed in All Programs, either by
itself or in the Microsoft Office 2003 folder within the All Programs menu.
Is there another way to open it? Maybe it's installed and I just don't know
the path to find it.

Ok, run the Check Server Extensions and let FP tighten security.

The from FP use File Menu | Open Site and enter

If the web server is a Windows 2000 / 2003 web server use:
http://<machinename> or http://<ipaddress>

If the web server is Windows XP Pro then use:
http://localhost or http://<machinename>

Have you purchased FrontPage, as it is not included as part of Office Suite, nor with the OS?

Say, if that link to Open With Front Page Link doesn't work and never has,
how do you open Frontpage? I don't see it listed in All Programs, either by
itself or in the Microsoft Office 2003 folder within the All Programs menu.
Is there another way to open it? Maybe it's installed and I just don't know
the path to find it.

The open with FP link has never worked, so forget that option.

What happens when you try:

Check Server Extensions
Recalculate Web

and then finally

Remove Server Extensions

:

1. Windows XP Pro comes with the FP2000 extensions.
2. The Version 3.0/ bin folder is part of the Windows OS and has nothing to do with using FP.
3. The last version of the extensions are FP2002, which are no longer available for
downloading.

When use open IIS MMC and right click on the default Web and select All Tasks, what options do
you
see?

When you re-installed IIS, did you also select to install the FP extensions?

Well, I don't have a link to Server Administrator under Administer Tools but
if you're talking in specific about Server Extensions Administrator, then I
can access that from my All Programs menu but haven't been able to get it to
help me out.

I've tried uninstalling IIS, rebooting and then reintalling IIS with the
Windows XP CD in the CD ROM but still, the same results. I don't know, like I
said, I'm at a loss. I'm beat and will have to abandon the effort unless
anyone else can figure it our. I do, however, wonder if the problem is with
an update I've taken in prior to trying to install Frontpage.

:

Look under Control Panel | Admin Tools | Server Admin.

If your server is Windows 2003, then you can only install the FPSE from the Windows 2003
CD

Well, I tried that but it didn't work. No matter what I do, it tells me that
there are newer server extensions on this machine and that I need to use the
server extension administrator to configure them but it has no affect at all.

I'm at a complete loss. The version of Frontpage that's in my Program Files
folder, that I'm trying to install, says it's 2000 but System info says it's
2003. I suspect that what System info means is that the extensions are for
2003. And since they didn't come from the Server 2003 disc, I have no idea
where they came from. All I know is that because they're there, I can't
install Frontpage.

OK, well, that's great. So, how would I get those off of my computer? System

:

You can indeed install FP 2003 on Windows XP.

There is no FP 2003 on the Windows Server 2003 Disk. There *are* FP 2002
Server Extensions on the disk that are proprietary to Windows Server 2003.

So, if that's what you've installed, that's probably your problem.

Uninstalling Office won't have any effect on FrontPage, as they are separate
programs.
