Well my HD crashed and I'm re-installing XP

Since there are multiple versions of Direct X and Net Framework, can
someone tell me if ...

A. I have to install _ALL_ the versions of both Direct X and Net
Framework?

or ...

B. I just install the very latest version that can work on XP ?

Can someone please help? Thank you.

DirectX needs only the latest version.
NET requires all versions: they are cumulative.

Read here for Net Framework

Latest version for DirectX is all you need.

Not a Media Center related question, you went a bit overboard in your

Regarding Direct X, all you need is the latest version.

The .net framework is different however. The .net framework is a bunch
of runtime files that are needed for programs written with .net. Which
version of the framework is needed depends on which version of .net
the program was written with, and it's possible, even likely, that you
may need all of them.

pier come to mind.
The OP wants help. You can't ...so STFU and let others help. There's a

How can we help you installing OS addons if you are not able to handle a
simple program like a newsreader?

You're not too good at this... chrisv is NOT the person asking for help.

DirectX needs only the latest version.
NET requires all versions:  they are cumulative.

I believe that the .Net version are each "independent" and not
cumulative. If the .Net versions are cumulative, you would only need
the latest version. However, we may need to have version 1.x, 2.x and
3.x as several "other" software require a specific level to work.
