Installing correct product key

I just recently did a whole reintstall of windows xp pro on my system. My
problem is, is that I believe at the time I was trying to install of my two
copies of it, my first copy had an error being read off the disk. The
solution was for me to use my second disk to do the whole install. The
problem is that the second disk is already isnstalled on my second computer
and therefore can't be validated. I just recently cleaned the laser head on
my dvd rom and now it's reading ok. My question is; how can I quickly
reinstall the product key onto my computer from my first disk? Do I have to
do a reinstall or is there some other way to 'swap' that product key into the
already installed system? Thanks many times over for all of the support you
guys give me out there! You're fantastic!

The Magical JellyBean Key Finder application has the facility to change
the CD Key (it's under Options).

Tried it but it had an error and for some reason couldn't do it. Have any
other suggestions? I did double check the key and it's fine.

Provided the two CDs are the same (Home or Pro, OEM or retail) then you
could try a repair install using the product key you want.

If the two CDs are different then your only choice is a reformat and
reinstallation as you cannot use a Home key with a Pro installation and
vice-versa (you can also not use an OEM key with a retail or upgrade
version (and again vice-versa through the variations).
