Installing Adobe Reader 8

Has anyone experienced problems installing adobe reader 8 on XP SP2? I have
tried several times to download and install. The result is always the same.
After the download and install, I attempt to open a previously functioning
pdf or open AR 8 all I get is a message. Adobe Reader 8 has encountered a
problem and needs to close blah blah blah. About to give up and re-install
AR 6. HELP!!!!!

Have you checked on the Adobe site, with Adobe tech support and on their
forums? You could try the free Foxit Reader in place of AR8.

I recently installed AR 8 on two different XP Pro SP2 machines with no
problems. Try the following sequence:

1. Uninstall AR 8.
2. Delete any AR 8 install programs (yes, I know this means another 21
MB download)
3. Delete all temporary files on your hard drive. Note that Disk
Cleanup may miss some files, so type %temp% in Start|Run and press
enter. Delete the files in this directory.
4. Reboot
5. Turn off any anti-virus "auto-protect" feature.
6. Download AR 8
7. Try the AR 8 install again. Good luck.
