I have recently purchased a HPdv2050us laptop with has a Windows XP Home OEM
installation. I want to change my OS by installing Windows XP Professional
and removing Windows XP Home.

I purchased the Windows XP professional software. When trying to install,
the Windows XP Professional installation passes a set of screen and then ends
up giving the following message:

Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer.
Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your
computer, and that any disk-related hardware configuration is correct. This
may involve running a manufacturer-supplied diagnostic or setup program.
Setup cannot continue. To quit setup, press F3

On pressing F3, the laptop just restarts. I am able to restart my machine
using Windows XP Home and do not see any issues with the hard disk drives and
face no issues using any installed application. My Windows XP Home edition is
an OEM version.

Please help in installation on Windows XP professional.

How can I find out which type of storage device I am using for choosing the
respective drivers.

Go to www.hp.com
click on "software and driver downloads"
Enter your laptop model number
Pick your OS
You will be taken to a page of all the latest drivers for that laptop.

The following needs to be done for a successfull installation...
1. Turn on or restart the notebook.
2. Press the F10 key when the "HP Invent" logo appears on the screen. This
will open the BIOS menu.
3. Select the "System Configuration" tab.
4. Select "Disabled" for the "SATA Native Support" item.
5. Press F10 to Save and Exit. Choose Yes for "Save configuration changes
and exit now".

After making these changes I have been able to go ahead with the installation.

Enjoy !!!
