Installing 2nd HD

My first occasion of installing a 2nd HD
on a Windows XP system... done many
on 98SE & ME.

I install the physical drive, boot, let XP
recognize the new hardware and proceed
to DOS prompt to use FDISK to format
the primary partition and low and behold
there isn't any FDISK! So, off I go to
System Tools -> System Info -> Components
-> Drives expecting to have the opportunity
there, but "no dice". So, where do I go in
XP to format the new drive? XP HELP
either doesn't have anything to say about
that or I'm too tired to see it.

Thanks,
Bill

Hi Bill,

Under Control Panel> Administrative Tools > Computer
Management > Disk Management > you have your basic
functions for partitioning and formatting a hard drive.

I just installed a 200GB drive, and for some reason, XP
only see 128GB. I can't seem to figure out what
happened to the other 72GB.

SIGH! Thanks Tom. I've been there before
and completely forgot about that facility.
Thanks again.

Tom, for Windows XP to recognize drives greater than 127GB:
1) BIOS must support 48-bit LBA,
2) The disk controller (either on the motherboard or separately) must
support 48-bit LBA
3) Service Pack 1 must be installed and lastly,
4) 48-bit LBA must be enabled in the registry.
