Installing 2nd HD

D

DALLAS

Hi,
This will be my first time installing a 2nd HD. (western
digital HD)
Problems:
1. Thought I was able to install WINXP pro directly to
drive not realizing that I was suppose to use a disk
utility first. Now it seems I must clean the drive
completely.which I don't know how to do. Is there a way
of getting around this? I have both Winxp pro upgrade and
full install.
2. I want to install a slave and master. Is it possible
to have XP on both drives? Please make suggestions
3. The 2nd drive is installed but I can only see it in
device manager. Is there a way for me to format the 2nd
hard drive through the current drve "C" ? Am I suppose to
see format when I right click? (only option I have now
from right click is propertiese, install,
uninstall,update and scan...

I know I'm asking alot but any help is highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Ok, i'm not exactly sure what your previous system setup was, but it sounds
like you just wanted to add more space by installing a second HD. This
should be pretty straightforward!

Assuming your previous setup was 1 partition (C:) that contained the correct
version of windows you wish to use, then install the second HD something
like this:

1) place the drive in the computer case and connect up with the power and an
IDE cable (make sure that any dip switches on the new HD are set to Master
(if it is the only device on that IDE cable) or if it's on the same cabe as
your existing HD or CD-Rom set it to slave.

2) depending on the version of windows you have installed, it should
automatically detect the new drive...check this through Device Manager

3) You then need to create a new partition(s) on the new HD and then format
them (to create the filesystem). Depending on the version of windows you are
running, you will probably need a bootable floppy disk with fdisk (to set
the patitions on the new HD) on it. Boot the floppy and start
fdisk....select the correct menu options to create the partitions you want
(see
http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...rt/kb/articles/Q255/8/67.ASP&NoWebContent=1#5
for details) Then use the format command to format the new partition(s)

Hope this helps a bit!

How does one do that using Windows XP?
