Installing 250GB storage HD

I recently got a Maxtor 250 GB HD to increase my storage. I have
WindowsXP Service Pack 1 on my WindowsXP Home Edition, so my system tells
me.
OS Name: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
Version: 5.1.2600 Service Pack 1 Build 2600

It is one of the requirements for installation of a HD greater than
137GB, if you don't have a ATA 133 system (have ATA 100, obviously).
The HD did not install to it's full capacity. I would get a ATA 133 PCI
card but I don't have a slot available for it.
How can I overcome these two situations? Your help is greatly
appreciated. Thanks

Your BIOS must support larger hard drives or what is known
as LBA48 or you can partition your drive with two or more
partitions.
See
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;303013&Product=winxp
Also, you did not say what motherboard you have, you should
check the mobo manual for setup details.

If you have no slot available for the PCI card your system obviously needs
to even support the drive, you may be able to use the software the drive
came with to "make" the BIOS and OS recognize the drive. If it didn't come
with the software - go to the manufacturer's web site.

I cannot recommend against this enough. If anything goes wrong with that
software, you have the chance of losing all 250GB of data.

Upgrade your PC.

The website you suggested got me all updated with the correct updates to
Windows XP Service Pack 1. I'm ready for the next step which is to try
installing.
If "Kenny" had anything to offer to help instead of "running off at the
mouth" maybe he would make a suggestion.
Thanks for the help.
