not too long ago i installed the windows xp sp3 update, and recently i get
LOOPS of messages saying that windows has recovered from a serious error,
everytime i turn on my computer as well as when it reboots. also, when i
watch online videos and click full screen, now my computer restarts without
warning. also, if i try to play any video clips on my computer, it reboots.
today i uninstalled sp3 but the problems still exist. HELP!

Sounds like the issue and the solution you chose to implement were
unrelated.

First - what was the estimated time difference between "not too long ago i
installed the windows xp sp3 update" and "recently i get LOOPS of messages"?
An hour? A day? A week? I would venture to say anything beyond that and I
have trouble making the connection you seemed to have made.

Sounds like heat/hardware at first glance.

Could be malware.

Could be bum hardware drivers.

Suggestions:
- With the computer powered off and a couple of cans of 'air dusters' -
clean out the computer/fans/etc. Get rid of internal dust (if a laptop - at
least the grills and inputs/outputs.)

- Download, install, run, update and perform a full scan (seperately) with
the
following two applications (freeware versions are the ones to use for this):

SuperAntiSpyware
http://www.superantispyware.com/

MalwareBytes
http://www.malwarebytes.com/

After performing a full scan with one and then the other and removing
whatever they both find completely, you may uninstall them.

- Visit each hardware component manufacturer's web page (support/drivers
section) and download and install the latest drivers. I suggest especially
the motherboard chipset, video and network devices.

- Make sure your computer has the latest Windows updates.
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ <-- Custom scan, ignore the Optional
Hardware updates completely, I suggest *not* getting the "Windows Search"
optional software update.

- Run a Disk Cleanup, CHKDSK and Defragmentation (in that order.)

Come back - let everyone know if anything cleared up/is working better. If
not - give much more in the way of details. The specific OS version, the
errors fromt he event log, errors that come up on the screen (verbatim) etc.

I had exactly the same problem after installing XP sp3. Virus attacks like
never heard of before. I spend hundreds on loads of anti-this and anti-that,
not to mention reimaging. The answer from SS sounds right - unfortunately too
late for me - I bought a new pc instead.
