I installed XP over XP and now I lost all my settings. My
desktop, my start menu and my email....am I screwed? I
now know I should not have done what I did.

I don't know how you managed to "install XP over XP", but the correct
procedure would have been to perform a "Repair Install". Chances are
your files were overwritten.

I agree I do not know how I did that....but now here i am
and I need to figure out how to get as much of it back as
possible.
I can see all my files on my hard drive, i.e. my program
files, my Start Menu, my Favorites and even my Outlok
Mailbox, but I do not see those items on my desktop.

Any more advice?

Possibly how to associate my old user, who has all this
information, to a new user or rename my new user to my old
user?

Thank you
