melissa

i installed windows xp on my computer, then when i
started it to use it after the internet wan not working.
we have broadband and it said something like the driver
was missing. so we were trying to reinstall the modem and
or broadband, except there is no cd rom drive anymore. i
tried uninstalling the cd rom drive and reinstalling but
it didnt work. if you look in windows explorer it only has
c drive and the floppe drive. nothing else. there is also
a seperate dvd drive but that is missing too. does anyone
know what to do. i used to have windows 98 on there. would
it be easier just to use the recovery disk and get that
back to see if it works.???
thanks heaps........

Melissa...
get that PC to someone who really knows what they are doin....if you don't
your goin' be a regular here for a long, long time...
what ever possessed YOU to try this....

Melissa, Don't take martys comment to heart, some people just get tired of helping people that want to learn or try on your own.
If you feel brave to install a o/s system on your pc don't stop there. Try to see if the drives are in the DEVICE MANAGER. If the drives are not there try the ADD HARDWARE in the CONTROL PANEL . You might have allready tried this when you tried to renistall the disk drives but I do not know for your email is fairly vage and unhelpfull. You can also do a web search for the driver of the (Cd or DVD drive or modem or Networkcard) and copy it to a floppy ... Just takes some effort and sometimes a some extra help.
Hope this helps you, plus Martys reply is valid also. Good luck

Hey, melissa, think of marty as a dork for saying what he did. I'm
sure he didn't mean anything bad, but still don't even worry about
him. Anyway...

The most common reason for a cdrom to mysteriously "disappear" from
windows is because you may have a virus.

Have you tried using the latest antivirus software ?
you can even run it for free from the web, however from what you said,
there's no internet access yet :(

if you have a norton antivirus cdrom, boot your machine with it, and
let it scan the machine.

Sincerely,
