installed memory

Hi I have 256 of memory installed and installed a further 512, unfortunately
this did
not show up on available memory, if I take the 256 out and put in the 512
there is still only 256 available. Belarc advisor shows both memory modules
but says only 256 available. I have a KT3 Ultra motherboard. I have tried
different slots but no luck.
any help would be appreciated

There is a recognized bug in System Information. The inventory on the
System Properties page ( Control Panel > Performance and Maintenance >
System ) can be relied on. What does the BIOS show?
