I put a cd burner on my computer that was home built; so Windows is asking
for an installation ID number and they say it isn't a valid number. I put the
original Windows program on the computer and it isn't registered anywhere
else.
I can't get onto Windows, I don't know how to uninstall it, and since I
moved, I don't know where my stuff is to reinstall it.
Am I up a creek without a paddle and without a boat? Or is there help for me?

If you mean the CD key, if this is a retail version of XP and not a retail
OEM version of XP, you should be able to call Microsoft to get this
resolved:
(800) 360-7561

If it's a retail CD but it is an OEM retail CD, then you must contact the
people who sold you the disk.
