Installation Wizard problems PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

I have windows XP home and I am having trouble with my
Installation Wizard. When I try to install a program
(Microsoft Digital Image), partway through it dumps me
out. I know the program is compatable with XP and I know
the CD works fine because I tested it on my other computer
to make sure it wasn't a CD problem. Anyway, I think it
all started out when I tried to install a program called
Face Factory. I didn't install right. Anyway when I
tried to install the new program (Microsoft Digital Image,
the very first time, I got some message that it couldn't
install because Face Factory was still being installed or
something to that effect. I can't remember the exact
wording, anyway I tried to uninstall all of face factory
and as far as I know it's all off the computer, and I don't
get the message that it is still trying to finish
installing that program before it can install a new one,
instead, I just get dumped out every time I try to install
Digital Image. Is there any way I can just reinstall
Installation Wizard from the XP disc or something. I
can't figure out any other way to get the installation
wizard to work again. PLEASE HELP ME!! I'm desparate
because I can no longer install anything until this
problem is fixed. Thanks for your time.

Hi,

Try cleaning up the installer.

Start/run services.msc, scroll down to "Windows Installer" and double click
it. Stop the service if it is running, set the startup type line to
disabled. Click apply/ok and reboot.

Delete the contents of the temp folders, there may be a file in there
interfering with the setup routine of the installer. Get both:

C:\Windows\temp
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\local settings\temp

Now reverse the first set of steps and reenable the Windows Installer (You
can just set the startup type to manual). Reboot.

Turn off all other running programs, especially your antivirus software. Use
ctrl+shift+escape, if necessary, to "end task" on everything.

Now retry installing some software.
