When I try to install an Adobe update for instance I get a message that I
need to stop "photoshopelementsfileagent.exe". I can find the file in search
and when I click on Properties it says running. My problem is that I do not
know how to stop it from running. I wolud appreciate some help. Thanks.

Hello Warren,

Open the Task Manager (Ctrl - Alt - Del).
In the Processes tab, see if it is located there, and click the 'End
Process' button.

This program (service) monitors of files are added to the photo album
in Adobe.
If you don't use or need it, you can disable it from starting by:
Go to Start => Run and type in "msconfig" {without the quotes}
Locate it in Startup and/or Services tabs, and uncheck it.

Claymore
Thank you so much. I really appreciate you taking the time to help me.

No problemo, Warren. Thanks.

Hi Claymore,

I hate to be a pest, but I have another problem. I was hoping your solution
would take care of both.
When I reboot or a cold start I get the windows installer attempting to
install a program that I aready have. I click cancel, but it does not go
away. To get it off the desktop I have to go to end task. If I try to
install a program I get an error 1500 message. It says the is another progam
being installed and it must comlpete. I was told to install Windows
Installer Cleanup Utility. I cannot do that because of the problem I have
and I do not know how to manually install it. Could you help me with this?
Or is there a better way to solve my problem.
Thanks.

Hello again, Warren

Try this first:

Kelly's Windows Installer fix:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Line 94 - Left (the left one - "Windows Installer Fix")

This downloads a .reg file. Double-click on the file to Merge the
contents. Restart.

If this works, run the Installer Cleanup Utility.

Or ...

Check in Start => Run => and type in "msconfig" {without the quotes}
for an item that looks like an installation. Disable it.
Try to re-install the offending program.

Or ...
Try to run the cleanup utility in Safe Mode (restart and tap F8
repeatedly after the manufacturer's splash screen). Select 'Safe
Mode'.

Luck!
