Installation Problems

Trying to setup XP on a computer. Each time, I clean out partition and start
loading and it gets to the point where it is to copy driver.cab file and it
gives error message about not copying. After installation, CD's etc. don't
work well, evidently because of driver.cab files. CD seems fine and has no
errors. As an experiment I loaded it on another unused computer that I had
in the garage and driver.cab file did copy without error message. In
frustration I borrowed a friend's XP CD and tried that and again the
driver.cab file would not copy. Completely different version of XP. Please
help me, what is going on. ??????????????????????????????????????

Hi,

How was the partition created? WinXP setup is often fussy about it, and
likes to create its own. Try allowing setup to delete the existing
partition, then recreate it, format and proceed with the installation. Also,
make sure any BIOS level AV detection schemes are disabled while performing
the initial installation.

I already did let setup delete and create the partition and I don't really
know what BIOS level AV detection is but I don't believe I have it. ????

Hi,

Many system BIOS' (especially newer ones) have a basic AV routine in place
to prevent an infection at this level. Check your system documentation on
how to access the BIOS for your system and look for and disable this option.
This is done when the system first is turned on, before any hard drives or
CD's are accessed to boot. Look for a line that reads something like "press
<key> to enter setup". If you have a manufacturer's logo screen at this
point, hit the <escape> key to see what's going on behind the scenes.
