installation problems

I can't start installation.
My pc is win2000sp4 ,ie 6.0. I have download GDI and windows installer3.1.
I also can't run it .

I have checked with event log :
Product: Windows Defender -- A required update to Windows Update is
available at the Windows Update website. To view a list of all installation
requirements, visit the Microsoft website:

Hello yankeeyang,

Go to Windows Update, do an Express scan, and apply all offered updªtes
http://update.microsoft.com

Once that is finished, can you verify the update installs? There are many
pre-requisite files which are needed from windows update and signature
update with windows defender will fail until you have these files.

What error message do you get when you try?

You need to get through all offered critical updates on an express scan at
Windows Update.
