installation problems with rc1 and from cds

I downloaded RC1 shortly after it became available. I burned it to a dvd. I
tried to run to RC1 from the dvd as an upgrade to xp several different ways.
it gave me an error "system can not run on this version of the OS. To install
windows please try booting from the install media." I tried the clean
install and i got a disc error 1/2 through. So i had to reinstall xp and i
ordered rc1 online. I received rc1 in the mail and tried installing it
clean. all went well except that i couldn't install anything from cd. So i
reinstalled xp and tried installing rc1 as an upgrade and i got the same
message that i received previously. So i have encountered two problems:
can't upgrade from xp and can't install programs from cds when running rc1.
i'm using the 64bit version.

You cannot upgrade XP which is a 32 bit OS, to any 64 bit OS. It has to be
a full clean install only.

What are the programs that you are trying to install from cd?

Have you checked the device manager to see if the drive is being recognized?
There have been some folks on other threads with that type of problem, but I
don't know what they decided. It might be related to your chipset or some
such thing, so you might let us know what you have, maybe it will help.

I did see someone on another thread had your type of problem and stated that
RC2 fixed his. But you might search through the vista.hardware_devices
forum.
