Installation ofr ADobe via Active Directory

As you can see from the response below this is an ongoing problem

The adobe package in question installs fine but does not install the printer
ports.

However when installed locally it does. Just not via Active Directory.

This is the problem I have I can not install it locally as there are
something like 1000 machines to install it onto

As per Chris's email below the package will install as an administrator
locally but will not install as a user

However, the package has been given rights to the program files folder to
install into and using folders below installation directory.

please help :D

Wiggle,

If I am not mistaken I responded to you as well.

Please correct me if I am mistaken, but you are creating an .msi file from
some third party. You can install Adobe Acrobat Reader via GPO with the
native .msi file that is created when you install Adobe Acrobat on a WIN2000
system. Have you tried this method?

Thank you for your reply Cary

I have not recieved a reply from you before regarding this

Anyway our problem is that we are trying to pacakge version 5.0.5 of adobe
(exe only no msi in the root package)
Therefore we have to create the MSI ourselves the MSI works fine and install
adobe fine the only thing it dosen't do is install the pdf printer port it
installs the printer but this defaults to offline as soon as you go near it.

the pacakge is designed to be installed by a user with no privliges and
therefore all priviliges have to be set by the MSI..

this is the problem i think
can you help is there a specific way to add a printer and or port via a
script??

thank you all for your help

Wiggle,

Okay. Someone posted a very similar question a few weeks ago. Sorry!

Anyway, does it have to be Adobe version 5.0.5 or could it be version 6.x?
The reason that I ask is that version 6.x has an .msi file. However, you
have to first install it on a WIN2000 Pro system and then dig for it. Once
you have it then you are good to do. I do not think that there should be
any problem with the installation - even for a use with no privileges. I
assume that you mean that the user's domain user account object is not a
member of the computer's local Administrators or Power Users group? This
should not be a problem as I have used this method to deploy software via
GPO when the user's domain user account object is not a member of any group
on the local computer.

HTH,

Cary
