administrator locally , I want to have them join the
active directory and maintain there acces to there local
documents which are stored under the administrator
documnets . How do I get the ad user access to this ?

Steve,

First of all I would suggest that the computer account be joined to the
domain. This should be a straightforward situation. Just make sure that
the TCP/IP information is correct ( read: that the DNS IP Address(es) is/are
that of your Internal DNS Server(s) and not - can I yell that N O T part to
make it more clear? - the IP Address(es) of your ISP or some other external
DNS Server ).

Then, assuming that they have a domain user account already they simply log
on to the domain instead of to the computer account using their domain user
name and password ( or upn and password ).

Please note, however, that when they log on they are going to have a
different desktop ( read: profile ) from when they were logging on to the
local computer. This should not be that difficult to resolve, though. You
can either do it in Windows Explorer or via the Copy profile... tab. I
would suggest that they then store their work-related documents on a
networked server ( for back up purposes ). You can either use GPO to
redirect their My Documents folder or you can manually move the location
from c:\documents and settings\username to a networked location.

HTH,

Cary
