Installation of XP Professional over XP Home

I recently purchased a laptop that has Windows XP Home
version installed on it. I would like to upgrade this
version to XP Professional. Can I simply install XP
Professional over XP Home, or is the process of
installation more complicated than that?

Yes, you can simply upgrade XP Home to XP Pro.

NOTE - Microsoft does not support upgrading Windows XP Home Edition with
Service Pack 1 (SP1) to Windows XP Professional without SP1.

Hi,

I would also add that the laptop maker may void the warranty by making this
change to the operating system, and that a retail version of WinXP Pro may
*not* contain all needed drivers for the laptop. You may be "stuck" with the
customized version that it came with in order to retain full functionality
of the system's hardware.
