Windows XP help

My computer became a victim of a power surge.I had another computer that I
purchased 3 years ago and haven't used. When I tried to initiate use I got a
message saying I had a corrupt file in my operating system. I didn't get the
Windows XP professional CD when I purchased this computer from Tiger Direct
the software was supposedly already loaded on. My son got the computer going
by installing a Windows XP home edition CD he had from a Dell product. But
nmow I can't register it because once again I have no CD. I do have the
product code for the Windows XP professional edition (that was corrupt) that
was supposedly installed on it. My question is: is there some place I can go
to download Windows XP professional and use my existing product code to
register it?

No there is no site that you can download Windows XP Pro from unless you
have a subscription which will cost you much much more that simply
purchasing a new copy. Your fastest option is likely to purchase a new
retail version of XP Pro. However if you know someone who has an OEM version
of XP Professional you might be able to use it with your product key. It
would not be illegal to do that but not all OEM versions work with all OEM
keys.

When you boot the computer watch to see if there is a message to press a key
to select the boot menu. It is possible that their is a hidden partition
that contains the original image file or repair process that came with the
computer. However if your son deleted all partitions when he installed the
XP Home Edition then he would have wiped all access the repair partition.
