Installation of XP Home

Rob Feldesi

When I purchaced my Laptop computer it came preloaded with
Windows XP Home. My company does not support XP on their
network so they formated the entire hard drive and
installed 98SE and erased all my setup files that were on
my laptop. I contacted IBM to get a replacement setup CD
but they said they won't. So my situation is that i want
to reinstall XP Home but i dont have a cd for this
computer but i have a product key. I have XP on another
computer of mine which has another product key. Can I use
the other CD to install on this computer but use the
Product key that came in my laptop so i do not violate the
licening agreement?

Thanx for the help in advance!

Rob;
You can try, but CDs and Product Keys are normally not interchangeable
between types.
You may have only two options.
Contact IBM again and ask about buying the CD (significantly cheaper
than retail Windows XP).
Buy Windows XP retail.

No, the Product Key that came with your IBM laptop
will only work with the IBM installation of Windows XP.

P.S. It would be wise to talk to your company's computer
administrator before installing any software on a company
owned computer.
