Installation of windows XP over corrupted windows xp!?

I have a new windows xp software package that I want to
install and start fresh with. Am running xp now but
opperating system not working right at all. What do I need
to do to "start fresh" but save some of my programs and
files? JUst install it?

I'm not quite sure what you're asking, but here are links to the
different types of Windows installation:

Even though the Repair Install should keep your programs and data, Bad
Stuff Can Happen. Having current backups is just sensible.
