Installation of Windows XP Home Edition

I was trying to install an upgrade of Windows XP Home
Edition to my Windows 98 and I received this error
message that the upgrade could not continue because of
error number 578ff58h. Any ideas of what this is?

From the looks of it it was a blue screen error. It's always best to tell
us that as well as the entire contents of the message. It appears you may
have some compatibility issues. Revert to 98, then from the 98 desktop,
place the XP CD in the drive, when the setup screen appears, select "Check
System Compatibility." The report it generates may give a clue as to the
source of the issue. Don't overlook anything as seemingly too small as that
may well be the item that is the source of this issue.

whenever you load the windows Installation,it should ask
if you if it is a upgrade or a new install, choose new
install, this should work, tell me whether it does or
not>>
