Installation of Windows XP Home Edition

Can anyone in the Newsgroup explain why the front of the Microsoft software
box says the Home Edition Upgrade is for PC's with Windows 95 or earlier? My
note to microsoft is below and I'm still waiting for a reply. (I have Windows
98).

John, I am still very unclear about the Windows XP Home Edition software I
just received from Microsoft. The paragraph below was taken from your own
Windows XP website. The line I've bolded below appears completely contrary
to the statement on the front of the box my software arrived in ... it reads
"For PCs with Windows 95 or earlier, or PCs without Windows". Please explain
before I try to upgrade and find out I'm using the wrong software.

You can upgrade to Windows XP if all of the following are true:

• You're already using a previous version of Windows that supports
upgrading. These include: Windows 98 (including Second Edition); Windows
Millennium (Me); Windows NT 4.0 Workstation (Service Pack 6 or later);
Windows 2000 Professional; or Windows XP Home Edition. (Windows 95 and
earlier versions do not support upgrade to Windows XP Home Edition or Windows
XP Professional.)

That shouldn't be on an Upgrade box, that's the description on the full
retail version's packaging. Are you 100% certain that you're looking at
a package that specifically says "Upgrade."

That's not an Upgrade box you're looking at, it's a Full version
box.

Even on the Full version box, that statement is somewhat
misleading. It's telling you that you you need that Full version
if you have no previous version of Windows or a 95 or earlier,
since the Upgrade version won't work in those situations. It's
*not* telling you that you can't use that box with a version
newer than Windows 95.

<LOL> I didn't take the pictures, Mike. I don't even own a camera.

But that's the way my one Grandmother used to take pictures. :)

Well, Wesley

If ever you do get a camera, do not follow the style of either your
grandmother or the nitwit who didn't get either the head or the feet in on
those packages.. I'm just amazed that there was no garbage can tucked away
in a corner or maybe a tree sticking out of where the head would have been..
