Installation not finding SQL server

M

Mark Stega

I've got an odd installation issue: When I try to do the install step of
"Database setup", it goes to the "Checking database engine status" and then
pops up an error stating that MSDE or SQL Server 2000 (or later) is
required.

This system has both MSDE (from MSDN help) as well as SQL Server installed,
in fact, if I back up one step in the installation & try to do "Database
engine setup", it reports that either SQL or MSDE already exists.

Is there a specific account that the installation is trying to use or is it
likely somthing else?

Scott,

Basically, your observation was correct. From add/remove programs I got rid
of the MSDN library content which is hosted by MSDE. After doing this the
database setup worked.

Thanks for the help,

Mark
