Database Setup Error

I am installing Windows XP Embedded (a licensed version on CD) on XP
Professional. I saw many problems in the newsgroup and on the web associated
with installing MSDE but I got through that part OK.

At the Database Setup stage it almost completes the installation phase and
then there is an error:

'An Error occurred while attaching the database to SQL Server, file
G:\Windows Embedded Data\MantisSQLDB_Data.mdf, message: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL
Server Driver][SQL Server]Cannot associate files with different databases.
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Could not open new database
'MantisSQLDB', CREATE DATABASE is aborted.
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Log file 'e:\Windows Embedded
Data\MantisSQLDB_log.LDF' does not match the primary file. It may be from a
different database or the log may have been rebuilt previously.'

And then when pressing [OK] the installation unwinds itself.

I am not installing XP Embedded on drive E: although a previous partial
installation exists on drive E: which I can no longer use because some files
on it were lost. (Dont even ask....)

Why is the install script looking for files on Drive E:? Or is it something
in MSDE?

I removed the drive letter of Drive E: in the Disk Administrator section,
and now installation is proceeding.

Are you installing the SP1 version or the original version of Windows XP
Embedded Studio? I ran into problems with the original version installation,
but haven't ran into any with SP1. I would recommend that you remove all of
the Windows XP Embedded Studio components (MSDE, XPE database, XPE tools,
etc.) completely from the system using the Add/Remove Programs control panel
applet. Then, try re-installing everything, paying close attention to the
installation paths and driver letters to make sure that the software is
being installed exactly where you want it installed.

Good luck!

It is an SP1 version, yes.

And what I have is a fresh install of XP Pro on Drive G:, with a fresh
install of Embedded Studio on it, but the machine also has an old
installation on Drive E:, but it was never installed on this Windows
environment, it just happens to be present in the machine.

Removing Drive E: solved the problem. Since I posted the newsgroup
installation proceeded normally. I have yet to make an image though....

Perhaps MSDE or the install script is searching my drive letters in sequence
until it finds the file, instead of knowing it should be on G:
