I've written an app that I can deploy easily enough by just copying over the
CAB file and then clicking it to have it self-extract and install.

However, when running an msi installer that I created on the windows
desktop, it gets to the point where it launches the CE App Manager and asks
me if I'm happy to install to the default directory to which I reply: Yes.
It then tells me to check the screen of the pocket pc to see if additional
steps are necessary. At this point I see the following pop-up on the device:

"My App was not installed successfully. Please run Setup again"

I have no idea at all as to why this should be. Has anybody experienced this
before?

Thanks

Steve

I'm getting exactly the same problem when trying to do the
same thing with a HP iPaq h5550. It installed fine when I
tested it on my own Toshiba e310 (PPC 2002).

Strange. Is it Mobile 2003 thing?

Hi Steve,

I am also facing the same problem. In my installation program, I also
created a shortcut to the program that invokes CE App Manager to deploy
the application CAB file to the device. So that one can deploy to
multiple devices or can re-install on same device or in this case can
retry. It works fine on PocketPC 2002 however fails on PocketPc 2003.
If you re-try (i.e. invoke CE App Manager again) then CE App Manager
screen does not even show up. Incidently, manually copying the CAB file
(.ARM) works. My guess is that CE App Manager is copying incorrect cab
file to the device and so from its perspective, it has installed the
s/w. However in reality, device has got incorrect CAB file. Can anyone
from MS confirm this?

PS. I am thinking of copying CAB file using RAPI. But how can I figure
out the correct processor type? On this newgroup, someone from MS has
suggested a way that was using native DLLs to figure out instruction
set and hence the processor. Can there be a simpler way assuming my
target device is only PocketPC (2002/2003) and not other CE devices?
