How can I install xp pro to an external 80 gig hard
drive? I had a HD crash recently and the tech suggested I
set up my xp pro on an external HD so I could still
operate while the HD is replaced.

Windows XP can only be installed on an internal drive.
You may wish to find a new "tech".
