I'm trying to install xp pro on 2nd hand cpu with no operating sys (just
dos), I've been trying to install xp from boot, i get part way through and i
either get a msg Error Code 7 or ohci1934.sys is corrupt and setup fails how
can i fix this

Does this happen after you've done a clean format? It possibly could be bad
media or a scratch in your CD, etc.

i hav't been able to format it wont go that far

Will the computer boot to the CD?
If not, make sure the BIOS is set to boot to the CD.

Does it start the initial text based setup?
If it starts the setup, but won't let you get to the section about formating
the drive, you may have a bad cd.

Failure to install usually indicates bad hardware and in rare cases, a
bad cd. If your copy of XP is a burned copy, it might be bad. It is
most likely hardware, though. Test the RAM and the hard drive first.

1) Test the RAM - I like Memtest86+ from www.memtest.org. Obviously, you
have to get the program from a working machine. You will either
download the precompiled Windows binary to make a bootable floppy or
the .iso to make a bootable cd. If you want to use the latter, you'll
need to have third-party burning software on the machine where you
download the file - XP's built-in burning capability won't do the job.
In either case, boot with the media you made. The test will run
immediately. Let the test run for an hour or two - unless errors are
seen immediately. If you get any errors, replace the RAM.

2) Test the hard drive with a diagnostic utility from the mftr. Download
the file and make a bootable floppy or cd with it. Boot with the media
and do a thorough test. If the drive has physical errors, replace it.

how is the hard drive partitioned?

why not remove partition; and repartition and format using win xp cd?
format ntfs.
