install xp on laptop with removable drive

Hi
I'm trying to work out how to install xp onto my laptop after formatting it.
I boot up using win 98 start up disc from floppy drive with cd rom support
but as my cdrom drive is removable(ie needs to be swapped with floppy drive)
it dosent get detected. When i then swap drive over it isnt recognised.
Please help!

The XP CD is bootable. Put your CD drive in the laptop, insert the XP CD
and boot the laptop. You may be prompted to press any key to boot from
CD, when prompted just press a key on your keyboard.

If you are not prompted to boot from CD, check your BIOS settings and set
the boot order to CD before HD.

Greetings --

Simply boot from the WinXP installation CD. You'll be offered the
opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part of the
installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order of boot
devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)
