Greetz,
i accidently deleted the primary/ active partition on my new compaq nx6310
)this laptop is shipped with no ms operating system(win xp home edition
herein.) how can i partition and format the drive to install win xp home
edition?
facts:
when i insert the win xp home cd into cdrom, it boots and load all the files
prior to installation, in this phase, win setup can not detect the hard drive
and thus the installation is aborted.
i do not have neither floppy drive nor win xp home bootable discs.
kindly advise.

The first part of your question is a little confusing.
How exactly did you delete the system partition on your laptop?
Also, what exactly does "this laptop is shipped with no ms
operating system(win xp home edition herein.)" mean?
Are you saying that Windows wasn't installed on the laptop or
that they didn't supply you with an installation CD?

Your laptop probably has a SATA hard drive. To install Windows
XP on a SATA hard drive you have to provide the correct drivers
on a floppy disk when you come to the screen where it says at
the bottom "Press F6 if you need to install a third party SCSI
or RAID driver...". Since you don't have a floppy drive, you're
stuck.

Note: I don't know if it's possible to use a USB floppy drive
to provide the SATA drivers during installation. I've seen
references to the ability to integrate the drivers into your
installation CD but I have never tried it.

Since this is a new laptop, I suggest you contact HP's tech
support and ask them for assistance in installing XP.

Good luck

The drivers I'm talking about have nothing to do with the brand
of SATA hard drive. They're for the controller on the
motherboard. These drivers are available from the computer or
motherboard manufacturer. I suspect the OP needs the drivers
available from HP through their support site.

Intel SATA AHCI Controller Driver

Quoting from the download page for the SATA driver.

"This package contains the Intel Serial ATA (SATA) Advanced
Host Controller Interface (AHCI) Controller Driver. This
package is used to create a diskette that is needed during a
new operating system installation to ensure that the notebook
hard drive is detected and usable for the installation."

Here's the listing of all the drivers available for the OP's
laptop. Look under Operating System - Enhancements and QFEs.
It's at the bottom of that section.

HP Compaq nx6310 Notebook PC - Download drivers and software

Getting back to your comment, if you were able to perform a
fresh installation of XP on your Maxtor drive without using an
installation CD that already included the SATA drivers or a
floppy drive then I'd appreciate it if you'd share more details
about how you accomplished this feat.

If you're talking about adding a second SATA drive to a
computer that already had XP installed, that's an entirely
different situation. The drivers for the SATA controller were
already part of the operating system.
