Install XP on an external USB disk (IOMEGA)

How can I install Windows XP on an external disk ?

It seems that Windows recognize the external drive, but when I select that
particular disk (partition) it says that isn't possible to install Windows XP
there ...

Is there any way of overcome this ???

Sorry, I don't know the answer to your question, but you should be
aware that if your plan is to boot Windows from the external device,
that does not work. Even if your BIOS enables to to boot from an
external drive, Windows does not support such a configuration.

Paulo:
Unfortunately in an XP environment you cannot *directly* install the
operating system on a USB external hard drive. There is a workaround however
in that using a disk imaging program such as Symantec's Norton Ghost or the
Acronis True Image program you can "clone" the contents of your internal HD
(containing the XP OS) to the USBEHD. Understand, however, that the USBEHD
is *not* bootable under those circumstances although you could clone back
the contents of that EHD to the internal HD for restoration purposes should
that need arise.

Thank you for the help ...

But I'm not really understanding why Microsoft don't give that possibility
.... Very strange, from my point of view ...

My problem is:

I have a notebook from my company. I want be able to use it's resources
(drives, VGA card, monitor, etc) without having to install programs no it's
HD. So, I bought an external USBHD to do that ... Now you tell me it's
impossible to install an OS on that drive ... :(

So, everything I want to install on my external HD will afect the Windows XP
registry from the notebook ?...

What can I do ?...

I'm afraid that's the way it is.

The only thing that comes to mind is to create a separate partition on
the laptop's drive and install YOUR Windows in that partition. You will
now have a dual-boot configuration, and you select the OS that you want
to run when you boot. When it's time to give the laptop back to your
employer, you delete your partition and give the space back to the C:
drive (using e.g. Partition Magic or similar program).
