Hello

Try change in the bios SATA compatibility mode or create integrated xp
install cd with sata driver with nLite / http://www.nliteos.com/.

Does the laptop use SATA? If so it sounds like you need to install the
drivers for it at the time the installation routine is first run from the XP
CD. Early in the process you will see a message a the bottom of the screen
to press F8 to install drivers. Do then, then when prompted insert a floppy
disk with the drivers.

Note if you want to set up a dual boot with Vista you really should be
posting to one of the Vista newsgroups. As a rule one should install the
older OS first, in this case XP, then the newer, Vista. You are doing the
opposite. It can be done but there are complications. Best thing to do is
post to a Vista newsgroup. I suggest
microsoft.public.vista.installation_setup. Here are all the Vista
newsgroups.

microsoft.public.windows.vista.administration_accounts_password
microsoft.public.windows.vista.file_management

the partitions have to be prepped.
usually format will do.

be advised installing XP after vista will mess up the vista boot loader.
it is best to install xp first then vista.
or you can use a program like VistaBootPro to recover the Vista boot manager from XP.

You can't install XP to a partition formatted with Vista.
