Install wizard

When i want to install new software, the install wizard starts and says its preparing to install and goes up to 100% and then it locks. I have to use the Task manager to close it. Then, maybe five or ten minutes later, it suddenly goes to the blue screen and starts installing normally as though its got a mind of its own. However, Sometimes it doesnt go to the blue screen at all and sometimes new software installs without any of these problems.
This makes installing any new software a bit hit and miss. Hope someone can help.
