Install with no internal cd or floppy

I've got one of those really annoying notepads made by
Toshiba. Its a Portege 3440ct and doesn't have an internal
cd or floppy. Its currently running Windows 2000 and I
have a USB floppy and CD rom. I really want to format the
hard drive and install Windows Xp Pro. Can I just do this
from the USB CD using the XP format and install utilites
or will I get a problem once the harddrive is formated and
I only have a USB cd rom. What I'm getting at is.....If I
change the bootup sequence to CDrom will it pick up a USB
cd rom.
Hope someone can help

Roger,

What do Toshiba supply and support as the method of restoring the device to
as shipped from factory ?
They should provide a recovery mechanism and thus this should lead to a
solution - and answer the question - can the device boot off the USB CD

Make sure that the external storing device (USB CD?) is connected at boot.
Enter the BIOS and see where you can assign/change the priority of the boot
devices. I am not familiar with your BIOS, but I installed XP from my USB
(external) optical storage drive.
