I bought xp professional and had it installed over 98. my
son stuck in the xp disc again after i had it installed.
now i try to reinstall it as it went back to 98. i can't
reinstall because i have more than 1 operating system. i
don't recall ever having anything but 98 before.i'm stuck
in 98 and can't get xp back. how do i find what the other
operating system is? how do i delete one to get xp back in?

Usually, when you upgrade from 98, xp replaces 98,
and 98 is no longer available. XP will usually backup 98
incase you want to restore back to it. If this restore
has been done somehow, you'll need to upgrade to XP again,
because the previous upgrade has gone.

Sometimes XP is installed as a *second* system, which leaves
98 fully intact. In that case, you should have seen a menu
at boot time allowing you to choose either XP or 98.

What is the exact message you get when you attempt to
install XP?

Hello!
You enter the BIOS and make the 1st booting device as CD-
ROM Support.Save the change and restart the machine with
XP-PRO original bootable CD.
Follow the instructions described here:-
http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm
It will surely help you to get back XP.
Still if you get dual booting option. You right click on
XP's "My computer" icon > properties > System properties
Advanced > settings under startup and reovery > Edit
under default operating system > delete win98 option also
make the timeout=0 >save
restart
