Install problems D-link DWL-G520M

I am trying to install D-link wireless card DWL-G520M (MIMO) on WinXP Home
SP2 + later updates
but cannot finalize driver installation.

Installer asks for the file layout.ini half way through installation. I find
a number of files named layout.ini but
all of them refer to other installations so I get stuck at this point. I
have been in contact with D-link support
but they do not know how to help. They recommend re-install of WinXP.

I am upgrading from D-link DWL-G122 (USB). I unintall this adapter, drivers
and utility and I have also
cleaned registry from all keys related to D-link and G122 which is not
helping. I suspect a mixup with some
other installation and may have more than one installation of G122 as the
present device is named #2
I am stuck and need any help I can get.

Has anybody exeperienced and solved similar problems?

Remove all D-Link hardware.

Remove all drivers and applications associated with this installation.

Go into Windows safe mode, under hardware devices remove all the D-Link
devices found. Shut down the computer - power off.

Go to D-Link site and download the hardware drivers/apps for your version of
Windows (we are presuming that the CD provided is corrupt).

Install the downloaded drivers/apps, connect hardware as instructed. Power
off. Power on.

Thanks for your response.

I tried this but it does not work. There is still a G122 packet scheduler in
device manager that cannot
be deleted. I get same result when I try to install new device. It is still
looking for layout bin.

Is reapair/re-install of WinXP only option? Will this delete all traces of
G122, which I think may be the
problem?

I cannot help you further, sorry. Of course the ultimate fix-all to most
Windows problems it to repartition and reformat the hard drive and reinstall
Windows, I don't know if you need to do this yet.

Made it!

I thougt that you might be interested in how the problem was solved!

It was the installation program, InstallShield, that started to clean up
installation too early.
The solution is posted on their webpage at
http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108192.
If this happens installation should be made from RUN under startmenu
appending -a -deleter to path
after setup.exe, for example "d:\drivers\setup.exe" -a -deleter

Thanks anyhow for your help.
