I first attempted to install windows xp pro on my girl
friends HP. I recently gave it a new hard drive and
choose to install windows xp pro from my ex dell
computer's set of software. Installation went fine the
system rebooted, but rather then going into windows for
the setup it went right back to the install. So I thought
well maybe this version will only work on Dell's (as it
did state that on the CD). Anyway I got an original
windows xp pro disk and restarted the system it went into
the install just as before then rebooted and right back
into the install. Also I did delete and create a new
partition several different times during the installs.
Install of windows xp pro after reboot goes back into
installation rather the going into windows setup

see directions for new hard drive setup. got to maker of hard drive site.
your new drive needs to be configured to accept xp pro etc. you haven't
done that i don't think. I'm not an expert but have 8 or 10 machines in my
office and commonly when we replace a hard drive, we have to first set up
the drive to take xp or pro. make any sense. yeah, me neither, but i think
i'm right. see marfer's notes at www.geocities.com/marfe_mvp/xp_notes.htm
and links to kelly's korner and doug knox.com.
