Install Hauppague WinTV PCI card

Alan

I have upgraded my computer from 98 to XP and am unable to
install the appropriate drivers for the Hauppague WinTV
PCI card. I successfully downloaded the appropriate
drivers. When I attempt to install them, I get notified
that I have insufficient priviledges. Please log on as
administrator. I have used ctr alt del to log on as an
administrator and have even attempted the install in safe
mode. All with the same error message.

I have not been able to find the fix anywhere on the Web.
Does some permission need to be changed in regedit? I'm
afraid that I can't solve this one. Thank you for your
help.

Try running the hwclear utility which should be part of the software you
downloaded to clean all hauppauge stuff from the registry and also run
uninstall from control panel then try again as Administrator.

If this doesn't work have a look at the permissions of

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Enum\PCI

and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Enum

I seem to remember I once had a similar problem with W2K, I think used a
sledge hammer approach of setting the everyone privlege to full control.

I have a Hauppauge Win TV theater card which installed fine with a fresh
install of XP with sp1 and latest patches applied.

On my system the permission settings of these 2 keys are both SYSTEM - Full
Control

Everyone - Read

If all else fails I'd do a clean install of XP then try again.

If you need any more info send me an email.

Regards

Paul
