Install a new Motherboard in an XP Machine

Somewhere down the road I may buy a new Motherboard / CPU / Memory /
Video Card / ( etc)

for my 2003 Dell Computer

how difficult will it be to get XP to recognize the new Motherboard?

- and are there different methods of doing this?

Thanks

once the new MB is installed Physically, do not boot to the old install,
perform a boot to the install cd and perform a repair install, once the
repair is complete, then install the MB drivers. it should be that easy.

1) Most likely your Dell OEM version of XP is tied/locked to the original
motherboard or BIOS.
2) Dell often used non standard power supply connector pinout and if so
could damage
your new motherboard. If so then a new power supply would be a good idea.
3) A 2003 era Dell most likely used a PATA hard drive and most new
motherboards
support SATA drives and may or may not have a PATA interface.

Think you would be better off with a new case, power supply and hard drive
since you are replacing almost everything else in the old PC.
Buy yourself a new copy of XP and use it with your new PC.
Keep, sell or donate your old PC.

If the Windows XP is a Dell OEM version then it is unlikely to work with a
new motherboard. Most OEM Windows these days are tied to the BIOS on the
motherboard.
