Instaling XP to a newly formatted hard drive

According to the "Start Here" manual that came with my
Windows XP Home edition, it is possible to install to a
computer that does not have an operating system. I
formatted my hard drive as I have done with WIN 98 & ME,
and when I tried to run setup from the XP CD, I got an
error message stating that this program must be run from
windows. Is there anyway to make a clean installation
without reinstalling a previous version of windows?

Yes.
Clean Installation
Disconnect all peripherals (camera, printer, scanner, etc)
Disconnect network/modem cable.
Go to BIOS and set CDROM as boot device before hard drive.
Insert Windows XP CD and reboot.
At "Press any key to boot to CDROM" quickly press a key and follow the
prompts for a Clean installation:

Delete all partitions in step 5 if you desire to erase all data on the
hard drive.
Partitioning and formatting will be done automatically.
All data will be destroyed, back-up important data first.

Enable or install firewall BEFORE connecting network cable.

Install ALL Critical Windows Updates:
Start/All Programs/Windows Update

After you are finished, you will need to load the appropriate drivers.

If your computer was shipped with Windows XP, these procedures may or
may not apply.
Check your manual or contact the computer manufacturer for more
details.

You boot from the CD and do a clean install.
Click on or copy and paste the link below into your web browser address bar.

Mike--Your questions ALMOST answered my need, also.
However, I now stall at a screen that says it can't find
the End User Licensing Agreement. I can't seem to find
how to get to that to insert the product key on the
package.
