Instal deleted files!!!

My son recently upgraded W98SE to Windows 2000 Pro. However the install
process seems to have deleted a couple of folders that held his camera
images and a folder that held Excel spreadsheets. Is this possible? Is there
any way of recovering these files? AND NO he didn't back them up first so I
think this was an expensive error!
Thanks
Tony

Upgrading or a totally new install? Upgrading from W98 to W2k is anyhow a
bad choice.

So, it depends on the W2k install method. Perhaps the old directories were
left alone, but they could also have been removed by the W2k setup.
Normally you get a choice during W2k setup from some alternatives.

If you remember some file names, do a search for these files on all your
hard drive partitions. You might be lucky and find that the only change was
the path where they are located!

If the directories/files were removed you could try a recovery program.
These are sometimes able to recover data even when deleted from a hard
drive.

Google for file recovery.

Hello.

I suppose it is possible to restore erased files using data recovery
tools, such as Active@ Undelete or Uneraser (for pure DOS). These are
ihmo one oth the most powerful tools, as I've used them before and
indeed they never failed me before, nor ever corrupted restored files.
I'm pretty sure that will be able to solve your problem.
