I could be wrong but as far as I know you cannot insert a Real Player video
in PPT.
You will have to link to it in your presentation with an action button and
show it in RealPlayer . Or as you suggested yourself convert to a format PPT
can handle, such as Avi, Mpeg, or wmv.

Instead of VideoLAN VLC ActiveX Plugin, look for RealPlayer G2 Control.
Then, under custom, enter the filename.
