Insertion of a sound file stalls the transition

I'm a new user to Powerpoint. I've set up several presentations and they
transistion just fine until I add music. But when I insert a sound file in in
any format, then the presentation sticks on the first frame.

I click "automatic" and in properties check "loop thru." What am I doing
wrong.
