Hello
Can anyone tell me how to create a document which contains lines that I can then go back to and add text above those lines? For example, if I want to create an exam question, such as "Mary had a little ______.", how can I format it so that the word "lamb" could be inserted above the answer line, and still retain the line once the answer is typed in?....Hope someone can understand my question
Thanks

You can do it with tables with only the bottom border turned on for the cell
into which the data is to be entered. Another way is to insert a couple of
tab stops, one just after the e of little and one at the end of where you
want the answer to be inserted and then use the tab key twice to move the
selection to the second tab stop and the select the two and turn on the
underline when you then type after the first tab, the text will be
underlined.

You can also use the drawing toolbar to insert a straight line where you require the answer to appear. The line actually sits just below the line of text, so it doesn't move when text is inserted. The line stays in place and doesn't require that you position table cells to fit your text.
You can also try inserting form fields and place an underline on the form field. The form field will expand to accept the text and the underlining won't "disappear" as text is being inserted. This does, however, require that you protect the document
