Inserting subdocument in master does not carry forward document properties

Sandeep Sharma

Hi,

While using word 2003 with c#, I am inserting two
subdocuments in a master documents at particular bookmark
positions. In both the subdocuments, I have defined some
custom properties.
When the master document appears, it very well shows the
two subdocuments inserted with respect to the text etc,
but the custom properties are not carried forward.

Is there a way that custom properties defined in the
subdocument can be made available in the master document
also.

Thx.

No.

"Master Document" is a term of art in Word referring to a "feature" that not
only doesn't work but also destroys documents. The consensus (with the
limited exception of Steve Hudson) among those offering advice on these
newsgroups is that using the Master Document feature is a sure way to
destroy your document. It can destroy parts of your document that you are
not even working on! I think John McGhie said it succinctly when he said
that there are two kinds of Master Documents: Those that are corrupt and
those that will be corrupt soon. See <URL:

information on what goes wrong, and <URL:

how to salvage what you can.
