inserting slides = background/font colour changes

Hi All,
Hoping you can help me with a rather frustrating quirk
that I have noticed since archiving presentations from a
variety of sources.

Situation: I need to be able to archive slides I receive
from a variety of sources and then insert them into new
presentations. I generally use >Insert >Slides from files.
I have also tried copy+paste. Slides I make myself work
fine when I insert the archived slides into my new blank
presentation but ones received from other sources do not.

Problem: When creating a new presentation, the backgrounds
of slides from other people are not transferred when I
insert (or copy) their slides into my new presentation.
Often the font colour changes as well.
eg if I receive a presentation with a blue background and
white font, when I insert (or copy) it into my new blank
presentation it inserts with a black background (not blue)
and black font(not white).

To add to the problem, when I take my slides to other
computers the same problem occurs. ie When I save the
slides onto another computer and then try to insert them
into a new presentation I lose the background and font
colour yet again. It seems that as soon as the
slides/presentation goes into the archive it becomes
unusable with out major alterations.

I presume the problem is linked to the default PowerPoint
settings on each of our computers. My default slide is
black background, white font. Another computer's default
may be white background, black font. We are also using
different OS (Win 95, Win 98, ME, XP, etc) and versions of
PowerPoint (95, 97, 2000)

I have heard about a box that can be checked at the
Insert slides window but I don't have this checkbox on my
version of PowerPoint.

I have Win 98 and PowerPoint 2000.

Have any of you come across this problem before? Is it
possible to configure the computers (or PowerPoint) to
accept the existing presentations without it trying to
reset back to defaults?

Looking forward to any hints, advice, solutions.

Hi Jen,

When you insert slides from another presentation into your
current presentation, they automatically reformat to your
current master template settings.

There are multiple solutions for this. Visit
www.pptfaq.com and search on templates.

Check out the following entries:
