Inserting section name into Header

L

Lanie

Hi All,

I've created a document which I broke into different
sections using different 'Styles', which work as they
should in Outline view or in the Table of Contents. What
I'm trying (unsuccessfully) to do now is to insert the
name of the particular section of the document into the
Header. For instance, I have a section
called 'Introduction' and another called 'Conclusions',
which is formatted in a style which I called 'Section'.
I would like to insert the name of each chapter into the
Header, so that the chapter name is written at the top of
each page.

I'm thrilled if anyone can help me. Thanks in advance.

Hi, Lanie,

In the header, insert a StyleRef field containing the name of the 'Section'
style:

StyleRef Section

It will display the text of the most recent occurrence of that style, which
is what you want.

Thanks, worked beautifully. One small problem: how do I
have no header in the few pages before I reach a section
(ex. the title page, etc)?

Thanks

Hi, Lanie,

Put an actual section break (Insert > Break, select "next page") just before
the first page where you want a header. With the cursor in the text after
the section break, open the header area and click the Same As Previous
button on the Headers toolbar to turn that off. Then put the StyleRef field
only in the Section 2 header, and remove it from the Section 1 header if
it's there.
